It was a sweet night for Natiata ‘Girliegirl’ Porter,
when she won her second professional bout in as many attempts.
What made it even sweeter for Porter was that she won it by a fourth round
technical knockout, when she stopped a smaller Natoya Erwin,
from Akron, Ohio. Erwin took every punch that Porter threw at her
and landed a few punches of her own, which indicates she has a lot
of heart and courage. With the win, Porter advances her record to
2-0; with her first win, coming by way of TKO.

June 10, 2006 - Isleta Casino, SE Albuquerque, New Mexico
in front of a sold-out crowd, Holly Holm, 145 ¼, of
Albuquerque, NM, won a 10-round unanimous decision over last-minute
opponent Angelica Martinez, 147. Holm won the vacant WBA
World welterweight belt. Holm was supposed to fight Lisa Holewyne,
and the promo poster reflected that match. Just a couple of days
before the fight, Holewyne "skipped" out of town, due to a family
emergency, and left the promoter with no opponent. WBAN could
understand a "family emergency" but to not call the promoter with
some kind of update, and leave phone calls unanswered (WBAN even
tried to call her) was uncalled for and unprofessional. Warrior
Martinez, who had been wanting a long-awaited rematch with Holm,
stepped in for Holewyne with virtually NO preparation time for this
title bout. The fight was a battle between the two---and in WBAN's
opinion even before Martinez took the fight, would be a much more
competitive bout (Martinez vs. Holm) than with Holewyne. Holm
and Martinez did not disappoint! The two fought for 10 hard
rounds, with Holm winning by all scorecards of 98-92. In a
second women's bout on the undercard, Albuquerque’s Sarah
Perches, 121, made it a short night with a TKO over
Lisa Wittle, 40 seconds into the first round.

Noriko Kariya, 117, of Toronto, Canada, stopped her opponent,

six-round bantamweight bout on the undercard. Kariya improved her
record to 4-1-1 (1KO), with Hill remaining winless with a 0-4-0
record. From the opening bell, Kariya controlled the outcome
of the bout, throwing slick and much faster combinations, having a
devastating affect on the inside of Hill.
In the third round, Kariya was clearly dominating Hill, throwing a
barrage of combinations, when Hill did not respond, the ref stopped
the match.
