Sharon “Wild Thing” Anyos successfully defended her WBC world featherweight title, when
she stopped Esther Schouten of the Netherlands. Anyos told the news
media that it has been her hardest fight so far, and that she was
pleased that she won the bout this way. In the fourth round, Schouten received a
cut over her left eye, and the ref had temporary halted the bout to
have the ring physician check out the cut. In the sixth round, at
1:37 seconds, the fight was stopped when Anyos threw a barrage of
combinations, which stunned Schouten. With Schouten on the ropes and
in no condition to return fire, the ref stopped the bout. Logged in Master Search

[1-2-1 (0 KOs)] of Córdoba obtained a unanimous decision over
Patricia Alejandra "Pato" Giménez, 125¼, [1-1-0 (0 KOs)] of Buenos
Aires. According to the Página Argentina de Boxeo, Giménez's
powers of resistance conspired with her own lack of punching power
to rob Garino of a more categoric victory. Final judges scores
were 40-34, 40-35, and 40-35. [Sources: Página Argentina de Boxeo,

Jizelle Salandy, of Trinidad, stopped Elizabeth Mooney,
of the United States, by TKO in the eighth round.
WBAN received some details of this bout in which it was reported
that Mooney came out very aggressively in the first round to take
control of the fight with some combinations of her own; uppercuts,
jabs and some to the body, but Salandy would not have any of that.
Salandy came to the center of the ring where she started to settle
and throw combinations of her own to the midsection and Mooney’s
head. After, Salandy took control with several punches about the
body. That pattern continued right through to the fourth round. She
then continued the control with good body shots and straight rights.
She staggered Mooney in the sixth and seventh round and Mooney quit
the fight in the eighth round, giving Salandy the victory. Also on
the undercard, Scroller Carrington, 172, won on points
over Chico Walcott, 175. The bout was six rounds. Logged in Master Search

Jodi Esquibel and Melissa Shaffer faced each other for the second time. Esquibel won the first
fight, a close contest fought near her home in the desert
southwest. The women fought a four round bout as light
flyweights, and that presented the first challenge for Shaffer,
who had to pour down the water to gain enough weight to tip the
scales at 103 pounds. Esquibel weighed in at 105. Esquibel was aggressive in
the opening round, throwing jabs early to keep Shaffer at a safe
distance. Then, towards the end of the round Shaffer settled
into a rhythm and began to let her hands go. That move changed
the direction of the fight, though one judge did score the
opening round for Esquibel. Shaffer pursued Esquibel around the
ring in the following rounds, and while Esquibel threw the
straighter punches, Shaffer was more economical, throwing and
landing at the right moments. Many of Shaffer's punches came
from the outside in, thus she was able to land to the body,
and scoring there proved to be the difference in the fight. To
land punches in the third and fourth round the women had to
fight on the inside. That caused a frightening moment for both
women when they lunged in and knocked heads. Though both of them
grabbed their foreheads, there was no damage and the fight
continued. Shaffer seemed to easily fall
into a rhythm, pursuing Esquibel and landing body shots while
Esquibel tried to avoid the assault. Two judges scored the bout
40-36, the third had it 39-37, all in favor of Melissa Shaffer,
whose record improves to 9-4-0 (5KO). Jodi Esquibel suffered her
first defeat, her record is now 3-1-0 (1KO). Story and all

a scheduled 10 rounder. Halmich successfully defended her WIBF
Flyweight Title.
Ina Menzer,
125¾, of Germany, and Leli Luz Florez, 125¼, produced a
very exiting and skillful fight. Both boxers went straight to
business after the opening bell, with plenty of powerful exchanges.
Ina Menzer is known for her punching power, but also Florez managed
to get the attention of Menzer, especially in the first 3 rounds.
Menzer was able to take over the fight from the 4th round due to
her better defence and her very good combinations. Florez remained a
threat throughout the fight and proved to have a very good chin and
the capability to keep up with the high pace of the fight. However,
she was trailing Menzer in scoring points throughout, and the 3
judges gave all rounds to Menzer. The scores were 100-90, 100-90,
and 100-89. Julia Sahin, 107¾, retained her WIBF
Interim Junior Flyweight Title against Marylin Hernandez,
107½, by a 10-round unanimous decision.

Anchorena, 114¾, did not have the boxing skills to pose any
threat for a very motivated Alesia-Tamara Graf, 114¼, of
Germany. Anchorena was wide open, and Graf took full advantage and
punished her from the beginning of round one. Graf continued to
catch Anchorena with left jabs and follow up with powerful rights in
round two. The referee stopped the fight 42 seconds into round
three, after Anchorena was caught with some very powerful blows on
the ropes, and failed to return any punches. Flyweight
Susianna Kentikian, 112, TKO’d Maribel Zurita, 111¼,
in the fourth round of a scheduled 10-rounder. Kentikian won the
WIBF Intercontinental Flyweight title.

September 2, 2006 - Acapulco, Mexico
Zulina Munoz, 116½, won by TKO7
over Fredee Gonzalez, 115¾.
Report by Ewan Whyte: Twenty-year-old Fredee González's
dreams of a world title lay in ruins last night after Zulina Muñoz
(one year younger and a whole lot more talented, it seems) beat her
for the second time in ten weeks; and this time — as she had
promised — she did so far more convincingly. Both women had made
excuses for their performances last time, with Muñoz saying she had
been ill and González, that she had had insufficient time to
prepare, that she was in fact the stronger of the two, and that she
could knock Muñoz out. Not last night, she couldn't. According
to Sergio Abarca (Notimex), 'The She-Wolf', Muñoz, was far superior
from the start, punishing her challenger for the NABF bantamweight
title with blows to both head and body, and systematically
undermining her resistance to the point where referee Evaristo
Cedillo was forced to intervene and put a stop to the unequal
contest, nineteen seconds into the seventh round. So the fight
lasted just over twelve minutes; and the arguments — that had become
quite bitter — about which of the two Mexican youngsters was in fact
the better prospect can now, one assumes, be laid to rest.
