Asa Sandell, 162½, of Sweden, won by a third round TKO
over Tiffany Carter, 163½. The fight was
scheduled for six rounds. According to a report on Aftonbladet, it
was not an entertaining fight. Carter had nothing to put up against
a well trained and fit Åsa Sandell, and the Carter corner threw in
the towel after 3 rounds. The pro card was the first in
Sweden for 37 years. But if the restrictions, such as a maximum of 4
rounds, are not eased the experts does not give the return of pro
boxing in Sweden much chance of surviving. Team Carter told
WBAN, "Tiffany was TKO'd in the third round. Tiffany said that
she makes no excuses and stated that Asa pitched a shut out due to
the one-two jab, and that the long lay off she had, no legs and no
stamina." "I give high regards to Asa and her trainer Lennox for
coming in ready and well prepared for this fight and to Asa for
masterfully working the jab she has my respect", added Team Carter.

who fought in US in the 90'ties. The next fight could be as soon as
next week. She has been invited to box in Gothenburg next Saturday,
at the first pro show staged in Sweden in 37 years. She said last
night, that she was in great shape right now and would be able to

January 12, 2007 - at the
Palace, in Auburn Hills, Michigan
Mary Jo Sanders, 160 lbs., TKO'd Gina Nicholas, 160½,
in the second round. Nicholas then takes on a
title fight with Sanders. In this highly criticized matchup,
of making a title bout with an inactive boxer of five years,
In the Detroit News they reported that as the bell rang for round
three, Nicholas came to the center of the ring and told referee
Frank Garza that she could not continue. Nicholas appeared to have
injured her left elbow, but it was evident that she was beaten.
Nicholas said, "I pulled or tore a muscle in my elbow because I just
heard it pop when I threw a hook. I couldn't keep my arm up and that
was exposing my left side and she kept hitting me with the right."
It does not seem unreasonable that a 43 year old, inactive boxer,
who has fought 11 rounds since 2000 as a pro, may incur an injury
fairly easily when they go from not boxing as a pro, to taking on a
10-round title bout.

January 9, 2007 -Bergamo, Italy
There was a European (EBU) flyweight Title fight between Simona Galassi,
111½,
and Nadia Hockmi, 111¾. The fight was the main event of the show, which
was televised on Eurosport. What was first called a win for Galassi,
has now been called a draw, and the EBU European flyweight title is
still vacant. The final judges scores were 97-92, 95-95,
93-96.
Unfortunately, the fight was not what you would expect from a main
event, and/or a title bout. Hockmi started the fight in her usual
aggressive style, but Galassi showed some good counter punching in
the first couple of rounds. As the fight progressed it became more
and more messy with both fighters spending much of the time holding
and spoiling. Hockmi had a point deducted for holding in the seventh
round, which seemed unfair considering Galassi was holding
consistently without getting a warning. The last 3-4 rounds of the bout
indicated, that it might have been too early to let Galassi fight 10
rounds in her third pro fight. She looked tired from the seventh
round onwards, while Hockmi's experience of going 10 rounds on three
previous occasions within the last year showed.
Despite the somewhat disappointing quality of this particular fight,
Eurosport is to be commended for including women's boxing on their
shows. We have already seen some good women's bouts on Eurosport
within the last six months, and hope to see a lot more of the many
talented women on future shows.

Super middleweight Laura "Lady Ram" Ramsey, 168, now 7-2
(3KO), of Lake Wales, Florida, KO'd Ijeoma Egbunine, 167,
1:44 seconds of the first round. Egbunine went down twice in
the first round. Laura Ramsey has proven thus far in the sport that
she is a fearless boxer---willing to step inside the ring and
take a fight-where the outcome is not predictable.
In Ramsey's short boxing career, she has already fought in
Bermuda, fighting Bermuda's Teresa Perozzi, defeating Perozzi by
a decision; she has fought in Georgetown, Guyana fighting
Guyana's Pauline London, and TKO'ing London in the second round;
she took a 10-round title bout with a 72 hours notice to fight
Shelley Burton in Edmonton, Canada, going 10 rounds losing by
a unanimous decision, but making it a very competitive match against
Burton; She fought Erin Toughill (From California), in Hollywood,
California, losing a unanimous decision, but rematched Toughill
and stopped Toughill by TKO in the first round.
