Emerald Queen Casino, Tacoma, Washington - Report by Mike Blair
Molly McConnell scored her 6th win in an impressive fashion
Saturday night at the Emerald Queen Casino. McConnell faced Kita
Watkins (2-1-0, 1KO) in what was scheduled as a 6 round fight.
Watkins stepped out in round one and threw a flurry of punches at
McConnell. That tactic kept McConnell backing up in the early part
of the round, and occasionally, Watkins did catch McConnell, though
apparently not hard enough to sting her. Watkins plan appeared to be
to attack McConnell's head. However, too often her shots were wide
looping punches. McConnell slipped most of them and blocked the
others. In the second round McConnell settled in to a rhythm in
which she poked jabs between Watkins arms. When Watkins rose her
hands to protect her head, McConnell dropped to punish Watkins's
body. McConnell's accurate jab and right hands to the body almost
took Watkins out of the fight in the 2nd. She was hurt, but tough
enough to stay up and continue fighting. Between the 2nd and 3rd the
doctor looked hard at Watkins, but he decided she was ok to
continue, at least for a while. McConnell continued the assault in
the 3rd. This time, no matter how hard she tried to move forward,
Watkins could not answer. The referee stopped the action to let the
doctor have another look, and they decided Watkins should not
continue. McConnell scored the TKO victory at 1:08 of the
third round. She is now 6-1; Watkins evens her record at 2-2. Logged in Master Search

Kuehne began to connect with the heavier blows, scoring a knockdown
in the fourth round. In the last round, Kuehne almost knocked out
the unorthodox boxing southpaw with a series of hard blows. At the
end "The Wild Dragon" won clearly by the score of 60-53. It was

Susianna Kentikian retained her WBA Flyweight belt by TKO'ing
Marie Jose Nunez Anchorena 50 seconds into the 3rd round,
before a crowd of 19,500 in the Kölner Arena. Anchorena turned out
to be far too open for a class act like Kentikian. The Armenian born
Kentikian was in control right from the start of the first round,
although she began it at slower pace than usual. Anchorena paid for
her sloppy defence 40 seconds into the second round, when she was
sent to the floor by a hard right hand from Kentikian. She survived
the round, but the writing was on the wall. The punishment continued
in the 3rd round, and the referee called a halt to the fight 50
seconds into the round, when Kentikian had Anchorena against the
ropes and peppered her with a combination of 4 to 5 hard blows,
without anything coming back. So it turned out to be an easy day at
the office for the WBA champion; probably too easy for a world
championship fight. We look forward to see Kentikian develop and
show her potential against stiffer competition in the future. In
the mixed exhibition match between Regina Halmich and
Stefan Raab, Halmich won by a six-round unanimous decision.

In front of a sold-out crowd, at the,
there were three women world title bouts televised on Fox Sports
Net’s “Best Damn Sports Show Period”.
In the first bout, veteran boxer Kelsey Jeffries, 123, of Gilroy,
California, successfully defended her IFBA Featherweight world title
against Rhonda Luna, 124, of Rowland Heights, California, winning by
a 10-round split decision. This bout was a non-stop action bout, with Luna being the heavier
hitter, and Jeffries throwing the sharper and quicker punches. Both
boxers threw nice combinations, effective jabs and body shots. In
the fourth round, Luna developed a fairly large lump on her
forehead, which seemed to get larger as the fight continued. The
seventh round was one of the most “brawling rounds” of the fight,
with the two getting in a clash at the end of the round, throwing
some wild exchanges. Final judges’ scores were 97-93 Jeffries, 96-94
Luna, and 96-94 Jeffries. In a second title bout, in a rematch,
Jackie Chavez, 122, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, faced Southpaw
Lisa “Bad News” Brown, 122, of
Ontario, Canada. Chavez was defending her IFBA Jr. Featherweight
world title against Brown this night. But, Chavez would not hold
onto that title, when Brown defeated her by a 10-round unanimous
decision. Final judges’ scores were 99-91, 97-93, and 97-94. The
best round of the fight was in the fifth, when Chavez came alive at
the end of the round, throwing a barrage of sharp combos with Brown
pinned near the ropes. In the main event, Holly Holm, 143 ¼, Albuquerque, NM, and
Ann Marie Saccurato, 141, White Plains, New York made history when they fought
for six (IFBA, WIBA, GBU, WBC, IBA, WBA) welterweight world title
belts. Holm and Saccurato did not disappoint boxing fans, when they
had an all-out war for ten rounds. Holms won the 10-round
unification title bout by a unanimous decision. Final judges’ scores
were 98-91, 97-92, 97-92. WBAN has set up a special Comments

T'was the night before St. Patrick's Day, March 16, 2007, in The
Theatre at Madison Square Garden, when Maureen Shea met
Eva Lidia Silva for a Light Welterweight, scheduled 6 round
bout. With tonight's popular Irish Fight Card, every lad and
lass in New York seemed packed into the house, chanting, shouting,
beer, flags, whistles, cheers to the song of the Irish Rover, and
likely saying goodbye to their voices for the remainder of the
weekend. But often hidden by her Irish name few notice another fan
base and influence that stems from Maureen’s Mexican heritage, her
first language, Spanish. Manager Luigi Olcese notes,
"Sometimes there's a small group holding up a Mexican flag, chanting
for her." Tonight, she faces Eva Silva, from Mexico. The
first round both fighters felt each other out, getting in hits, but
Maureen scored solid to Eva’s head and body. Through most of the
second round Maureen continued to soften her opponent, and then
turned on the fire near the finish with lefts and rights appearing
from nowhere, catching Eva at will. The next round started like the
end of the second, and while Eva bravely attempted to defend
herself, Maureen let loose with a fury, picking her shots as the
punches pressed Eva to the ropes. Too many blows to Eva’s face and
combinations to her ribs, 1:06 into the third round, Maureen caulked
up another TKO. Perhaps, Maureen Shea steps closer to a title, 10-0,
but for now, simply time for a Bronx girl to celebrate her victory,
and the holiday near Alma mater, Iona Collage. See also: The

Dakota Stone out-boxed Tricia Turton through the
middle rounds of an eight-round middleweight bout to claim the
Washington State Boxing Council (WSBC) Championship.
Stone, though pursued throughout the first round, was able to gain
the slight edge by landing the more accurate punches. That would
continue to be the story in the next five rounds as well. In her
pursuit of Stone, Turton too often lowered her head and bulled
forward, swinging a bit too wide. That left Turton open for Stone's
straight right or left, and Stone's reach advantage made the
difference in those middle rounds. Stone appeared to tire a bit in
rounds seven and eight, while Turton increased the pressure. In
round seven, while Turton did catch Stone, she could not pile on
enough shots to break Stone down, though she did enough to take the
round. Deciding who won round 8 may have depended on where a person
was sitting. Some saw Turton finally go to the body and pile up
points. Others saw Stone covering up, blocking shots and throwing
the straight right accurately enough to win the round.
After eight rounds the judges scores were 80-72; 77-75; and 78-74.
Turton was no doubt disappointed. Stone was jubilant.

that forced the medics to advise the referee Shabaan Ogola to
discontinue the fight. Achieng in the first of three non-title
fights she has to win to be considered for any title challenges
showed a different self when she comfortably switched to southpaw
stance to contain her opponent. Mwakasanga gave a good account of
herself despite suffering a second round knockdown. Mwakasanga
kept her form by avoiding skillfully Achieng's hard right throughout
the rounds. The Tanzanian left the ring bleeding profusely from a
devastating hook from Achieng, vowing to return to Kenya for another
encounter against her old foe. The two have fought three times

Twenty minutes weren't enough to separate challenger
Jackie Nava, 121½, of Mexico and WBC champion Alejandra Oliveras,
121½,
of Argentina and the judges couldn't either, so the local girl keeps
the title. As was the case in their previous meeting when she fought
for six rounds with a broken hand, Oliveras again displayed
fantastic courage against an opponent with superior technique; this
time the handicap was a swelling that left her unable for much of
the fight to see out of her right eye and especially vulnerable
therefore to left hooks. On the same bill, Carolina Marcela "Chapita"
Gutiérrez Gaite, 118, lost her unbeaten record – though not her UBC
world title – when the judges gave her compatriot Bettina Garino,
122,
the nod after four rounds.
