March 29,
2008 - Gimnasio Tigre Garcia, Ensenada,
B.C., Mexico
Kaliesha “Wild Wild” West continued
to shine as she impressed fight fans in
Mexico with a 2nd round TKO over Flor
Verdugo. West controlled the fight
from the beginning landing jabs at will and
hitting Verdugo with power punches that made
the crowd go into a cheering frenzy. Heading
into the second round West continued to
catch Verdugo with a barrage of punches that
finally made the referee halt the bout for
Verdugo’s protection. The bantamweight
prospect’s record improved to (8-0-0, 1 KO)
and extended her fight streak to 8 wins in a
row. When Kay was asked about her
thoughts on her experience in Mexico she
stated that, “It wasn’t what I expected. The
fans out in Mexico are great and the
atmosphere was crazy. It’s so much different
down there, I really liked fighting in
Mexico, I think it’s better than fighting in
the states. I definitely want to go back!”

March 23,
2008- Esbjerg, Denmark
Anita Christensen, 117¾, of Randers, remained undefeated,
24-0-0 (8KO), when she defended her WBC Bantamweight title against
Jane Kavulani, 117½, now 7-8-2 (1KO) of Vihiga, Kenya.
Earlier today, Kavulani was a late substitute for Galina Ivanova
who had to call the fight off due to illness. Kavulani, who has
already lost a previous fight against Christensen - was never a
threat to the reigning champion, who was in control throughout the
10 rounds. The fight lacked the edge and tension
that one expects from a world championship fight, and this was
emphasized by the score 100-89 by all three judges. Kavulani took a
count in the tenth round after a hard body shot. There was a second women's bout on
the undercard. This was a rematch of Fadia Idrissi,
112½, of Denmark, vs. Zsofia Bedo, of Hungary. In
their first match, they fought in Budapest in January this year,
where the fight ended in a controversial draw. But---this time
there was no doubt about the outcome. Idrissi clearly won the fight,
and the three judges scored it 40-36. Story

Olivia Fonseca clashed with Christy
Nickel for a schedule 4 rounds bout.
Cristy “Code Red” Nickel hoped for some
lucky clover at the “Fist full of Shamrock”
event. But “Beware the ides of March,”
though a courageous fighter, she got herself
a fistful of Olivia. Each round, the
pattern remained the same. For the first
three rounds, a strong Cristy could not land
solid hits on Olivia and had some trouble
balancing after missing right hooks. While
power is dangerous, speed kills. Olivia
often deflected and countered Cristy’s
punches, landing solid body and head shots
that visibly stunned a frustrated Cristy.
During the fourth round, Olivia simply
waited to pick her shots and continue to
score, left to the body, right to the head
on a tiring Cristy. Judges scored it,
40-36, 39-37, 39-37. That would be a
unanimous decision for Olivia Fonseca.
