August 30, 2009 - Chui Restaurant,
in Nairobi, Kenya
Patroba Lihavi, winless now at 0-5-1, failed to make it six
rounds with Conjestina Achieng, now 16-6-4 (8KO). Lihavi was
stopped by TKO in the fourth round. The fight was scheduled for six
rounds. This was a rematch for the two, with Lihavi
being stopped in the third round by TKO by Achieng the first time
around on April 13, 2008. A matchup as this fight that
took place on Saturday, is probably one of the most uninspiring
types of coverage that WBAN provides for the sport. One has to
question on occasion...when in the world will these crazy
mismatches stop playing a part in this sport. You have a person [Achieng]
who fights for world title bouts, ranked #3 in the world with Boxrec,
ranked #5 with WBAN, and then they turn around and fight some
winless boxer [Lihavi], that is 0-4-1-----when they have already
stopped the same boxer in a previous bout. In another
women's bout, featherweight Agnes Adonga won a four-rounder by
points over pro debuter Consolata Musanga.

Ana Maria Torres, 115, of Mexico, won a 10-round unanimous
decision over Ava Knight, 115, of Chico, California. The two
were fighting for the WBC super flyweight title. Final judges scores
were 94-97, 94-96 and 91-99. In one local report that was
translated, they reported that Torres was 'much superior' and 'used
her reach advantage to good effect' but Knight moved well and made
for a difficult target. She also gave Torres a bloody nose which
'only made her more determined'.

- Radisson Hotel Columbia, South Carolina A disappointment was
the much hyped undefeated local favorite woman boxer Angel
Gladney vs. Nikita McCargo card, no fault due to Gladney.
Gladney took a quick victory when McCargo refused to come out for
the second round. McCargo didn’t appear hurt and apparently lacked
the stomach to endure further pain from Gladney. Enquiring minds
wonder if the Boxing Commission may withhold McCargo’s purse for
lack of effort. In such a short bout it was impossible for this
first time viewer of Gladney to really offer much insight as to her
potential or skills. This match was perhaps the disappointment of
the evening. Jake at Ringside reported the result.

aggressive during the fight. Final judges scores: 93-97,

six-round unanimous decision. The contract weight for the bout was
108 lbs. Overcoming flight delays Mayela's team made
their way to St. Louis well prepared and ready to rumble on the
"It's On" card. For six rounds Dunaway and Perez expelled their
energy in the ring from their superb conditioning programs. Perez
throwing quick combinations, Dunaway blocking and countering with
head and body shots.

Casino Resorts in Primm,

Donatella Hutlin, Stockholm, Sweden, fell to 1-1, 1 KO
when she battled a hard fought loss against Lucia Larcinese of
Montreal Quebec, Canada now 2-4, 0 KO's. With only four rounds to
work with it was clear from the onset that Larcinese was determined
to make this fight hers. She did well to dictate the pace of the
fight and landed the harder and more accurate shots. Hutlin
struggled a bit to find her rhythm but was able to land some fairly
decent punches---yet failed to deter her competitor. While
Hutlin was able to maintain good form it appeared she was unable to
execute her plan. Larcinese seemed confident, assertive and pressed
the action in three of the four rounds. With toe-to-toe combat in
all four rounds, it was Larcinese who emerged the victor with a
unanimous decision. All three judges scored the fight 37-39.
August 6, 2009- Hilton
Americas Hotel, in Houston, Texas Kimberly Connor (4-1-1, 2 KOs)
of Little Rock, AR and Tiffany Junot (6-2-1, 4 KOs) of New Orleans,
LA fought to a draw with judges’ scores of 57-57 by Phillips, 57-56
for Junot by Bish, and 58-56 for Connor by Yeats. The referee was
Robert Gonzales. It was a rather brutal bout with both fighters
exchanging heavy punches and each staggering the other at times
during the bout. Connor returned to Houston after defeating Crystal
Choo Choo Delgado previously. Junot was the stronger fighter, but
Connor had a significant height and reach advantage. Connor bled
from the nose for the majority of the bout and Junot had multiple
welts on her face including a knob on her forehead. Connor had a
good opening round using her jab and landing 1-2's which Junot had
trouble avoiding. Junot's power became evident when she buckled
Connor's knees in the 2nd round. Connor came back strong midway thru
the 3rd round and hurt Junot. The 4th round was good for both with
Junot putting in good body work. The 5th round was dominating for
Connor who landed clean shots and her reach advantage was huge. Both
showed they wanted the win in the final round with Junot having a
slight advantage to make the rounds even, three each, on my
scorecard. Note: Judge Bish scored the 2nd round 10-8 in favor
of Junot, which proved to be the difference maker in the
scoring....Story by Michael Campbell
