In a battle of two welterweight prospects, Michelle “Kid” Garland, a former National Golden Gloves champion, pounded out a majority decision victory over Sarah “knockout” Kuhn, a former two-time New York State Golden Gloves champion, at Albany NY’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday night. The bout was part of, “Fight Night V,” an enjoyable card promoted by Ares Promotions.  Garland, 145, Philadelphia, who entered the ring to music from the movie, “Rocky,” fought like the fictional pugilist in the opening round, walking down Kuhn, 146, Albany, landing hard right hands and left hooks. Kuhn boxed cautiously from the outside landing occasionally with the right hand.  The tide turned in the second round as Kuhn, apparently feeling more comfortable boxing from the outside, picked up the pace and landed crisp combinations to the head and moved in and out of range avoiding any serious counter by Garland.
