World Flyweight Champion after she won the title from defending champion
Raja Amasheh on Saturday night, October 11, at the Saarlandhalle in
Saarbruecken, Germany. In a very close and competitive fight, with many
tight rounds that were difficult to score, Germany’s Amasheh was the
aggressor for the most part, while southpaw Hamzaoui boxed well on the
back-foot and was very effective with clean counters.
After ten rounds of boxing, Hamzaoui was declared the winner by split
decision as judges Toni Tiberi and Vincent Dupas had her in front by 97-94
and 96-94, and Steven Mertz saw it the other way with 98-94 for Amasheh.
The 32-year-old new world champion from Epernay improved her professional
record to 11-1 (5), and Amasheh (32), who won the title this past May in the
same venue, loses for the first time since entering the paid ranks in 2008
and drops to 17-1-1 (4).
