Fight Report from Carol Ann Weber: I attended a terrific women's match last night at the Orleans.
Nadine Salim v. Trena Drotar. First off, both women came in in terrific fighting condition, which is always a testimony to how seriously they take boxing. Very well matched, Salim at 117 lbs. (2-1-1, 0 KO's, from Palm Springs, CA) and Drotar at 116 lbs. (2-4-0, 2 KO's, from Las Vegas, NV). The first round of this 4-round match, I would have given to
Drotar, because even though she threw less punches, hers were more accurate, had more power behind them and seemed to do more damage. But for the remaining 3 rounds, the fight was clearing
Salim's, who relentlessly threw combinations and body shots that wore down
Drotar, until her face was bloodied in the fourth round. At the end of the fourth, Salim was "walking the dog" as she backed Drotar across the ring into the corner in a non-stop onslaught of punches. Drotar fought back courageously, never giving in, but was simply out-boxed, at least that night. Salim clearly had the edge in terms of speed and endurance and the judges gave her a unanimous decision. The women's match was by far one of the best fights of the evening and have now ensured a place for a women's card at the Orleans, which has, in the past, refused to put women on their boxing cards. September 15, 2000-Sand's Casino and Hotel, Atlantic City
Isra Girgrah (129 1/4 lbs.) defeated Sue Mullett

September 9, 2000, at the Laporte Civic
Auditorium in Indiana, Suzy Taylor defended her IBA
Super-Middleweight Title (168) and TKO's Karrie Frye in the fifth round.
The fight was a toe-to-toe action-packed matchup. There was a crowd of
about 1,500 boxing fans, and Taylor and Frye gave them their money's
worth! In the first round, Karrie Frye was getting in some great
shots, and the judges scored the round 10-9 for Frye. The second
round, Frye again won the round, and the crowd were on their feet. The third round both fighters were getting in shots but Frye remained
ahead at that point. In the fourth round Frye had punched herself
out. Frye got knocked down at the very end of the 4th round, and she
did not get up until the eight count was counted, and then the bell
rang. In the fifth, about half way through, Taylor pounded on Frye.
The fight was stopped by a TKO. Frye went to the hospital after the
fight and stayed over the night under observation. The weight was to
be 168 lbs, but Frye came in under the weight and was 160. Taylor
improved her record to 10-4-1, while Frye fell to 5-2.
