(FEB 26) The #1
Ranked female flyweight in the world, Elena "Baby Doll" Reid
(19-3-5), will be joining IBF Jr. Bantamweight Champion, Dimitri
"The Baby" Kirilov, in defending a world title on the February 28,
2008 Roseland Ballroom show promoted by Cedric Kushner's Gotham
Boxing and Steve Bash's Bash Boxing, Inc.
Two months
after becoming the first active World Champion in boxing history to
win an MMA fight, "Baby Doll" Reid will be climbing back into the
boxing ring in defense of her WIBA World Flyweight Title against
unbeaten New Yorker Olszewski (4-0-1).
Reid, the
uncrowned WIBF flyweight champion after her disputed draw and
decision loss in Germany to then champion Regina Halmich (54-1-1),
will be making her first defense of her WIBA title. Reid captured
the WIBA title with an unanimous decision against Mary Elizabeth
Ortega (28-3) in July of 2006 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Reid captured
her second world title in July of 2007 at the Pechanga Casino in
Temecula, California.
Then IFBA Champion Shin-Hee Choi seemed to tower over Reid when they
faced off for the pre-fight weigh in. But Baby Doll's speed and
power in the ring quickly nullified any height advantage as Reid
dropped Chi early in round 2. Baby Doll would go on to shut out the
IFBA flyweight champion in an unanimous decision on the Best Damn
Sports Show Period on Fox Sports Net. One Best Damn Sports Show
celebrity who was seated ringside was really impressed by what he
saw live from Reid. "That woman can really fight" stated former
Denver Bronco Super Bowl MVP Terrell Davis immediately after the
fight.
"I am very
excited and honored to make my New York debut at the Roseland
Ballroom and I hope to keep growing my fan base coast to coast and
around the world," stated Elena Reid. "I would like to thank Bash
Boxing and Gotham Boxing, as well as my sponsors for helping to make
this fight possible. I look forward to defending my championship
belt and getting more belts along the way."
The
Challenger for Baby Doll's WIBA title, "Hawaiian Mongoose" Olszewski
was born in Hawaii but has been a resident of New York for over 15
years. Olszewski had a stellar amateur career where she was 28-0 in
national amateur competition and won multiple national and Golden
Glove titles. Olszewski made a name for herself professionally when
she traveled to Italy to fight WBC Flyweight Champion Stefania
Bianchini in September of 2007. The bout ended in a
controversial draw and an appeal for a rematch filed by with the WBC
was granted. Olszewski's talents are not limited to boxing as she studied ballet,
has done stunt work for live action shows, and was an NBA NY Knicks
"City Dancer" for three seasons.
"Elena Reid is
considered the best female Flyweight in the world,” commented Eileen
Olszewski.
I watched her
two fights with Regina Halmich and I think Elena won both of those
fights. I feel very confident about fighting Elena and I know I will
give an outstanding performance on 2/28 in my hometown of New York
City."
Elena "Baby
Doll" Reid 6 years 2 failed title attempts to win her world title so
she will not be giving her title up without a fight. Olszewski was
one winning round away from winning a world title in her last bout
so she won't be lacking for confidence and she will be the one
fighting at home this time around. The stage is now set for bout
that be nothing less than crowd pleasing.
