(SEPT 18) On October 1,
2016, at the Centro Regional de Deporte de Las Américas,
Ecatepec, México, another great matchup is on the horizon, when
WBC world champion, Yessica “Kika” Chavez, 27-4-3 (4KO), of
Mexico City, defends her WBC flyweight world title against
Japan's Naoko Fujioka, 15-1-0 (6KO) in a ten round bout.
This will be the fourth WBC
defense for Chavez who has remained unstoppable in her last six
fights, defeating some of the top female boxers in the sport.
Five out of the six bouts were WBC world title fights.
More on
Chavez vs. Fujioka
In the last three fights for Fujioka, she won the ten-round
bouts, earning the vacant WBO Bantamweight world title, having
an impressive win in her last fight defeating Shindo Go in her
first defense of the WBO title in June of 2016.
Chavez and Fujioka have both been WBAN's Fighter of the month,
with Chavez being our top pick in January 2016, and Fujioka, our
April 2015 Fighter of the month. On Boxrec, this upcoming
barnburner has a five-star rating.
Chavez has now fought as a professional in the sport ten plus
years and brings into the bout a world of experience, along with
her opponent who is a veteran of seven years as a pro.
The WBC wrote on their website, "“Kika” conquered the WBC
flyweight championship last September after defeating Arely
Muciño. She has defended the belt against Simona Galassi,
Vanessa Taborda and Esmeralda Moreno. However, a new challenge
is now looming on the horizon. Naoko Fujioka, a
formidable Japanese warrior who's won 3 of her last 4 bouts. She
has defeated Naoko Shibata, Anabel Ortiz, Victoria Argueta and
Shindo Go.
With only one defeat on her professional record, Fujioka arrives
to Mexico in order to conquer the green and gold belt."
This indeed should be a top-notch female bout with these two
female boxers in the sport.
