Well-respected amateur boxing official Ina Schuster dies of cancer

(AUG 31) Ina Schuster is the daughter of well-known boxing trainer Henry Schuster, who has trained some of New Zealand's greats, including Junior Fa, Shane Cameron, David Tua, Shay Brock and many more. Boxing ran in the family, as Ina took up boxing herself.  Full Story

World Champions get to defend in their hometown

(AUG 27) Mea Motu and Lani Daniels have successfully defended both of their world titles on the same night in amazing fashion. Now, both will get to defend their titles again, but this time in their hometown, making history in so many way.  Mea Motu has successfully defended the IBO World Super Bantamweight title against a tough Ellen Simwaka from Malawi. But Motu stole the headlines on the night when her shoulder dislocated in the first round, and Motu popped it back in to win the fight by Unanimous Decision.  Full Story

Jamie McGrath to Fight September 9th in Rock Hill, South Carolina!

(AUGUST 26) On September 9, 2023 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jamie McGrath returns to the ring to fight Alexis Araiza Mones in a four-round bout. McGrath has a very interesting story in women's boxing as she was a top amateur boxer years ago, to return to the sport after 17 years. Desley Robinson Won the WBA Oceania Middleweight title

(AUG 24) Australian Desley Robinson has won the WBA Oceania Middleweight title, squeezing through with a narrow split decision against Tongan-born New Zealander Nailini Helu. However, despite the result, in this writer's opinion, Helu was the better boxer between the two.  Full Story

This has sent a shockwave of grief throughout the New Zealand boxing community.  Born in Napier, New Zealand, and resided in Auckland, Chris Martin is one of the most respected and kindest people in the boxing community in New Zealand. Boxing Action in Argentina: Maria Cecilia Roman and Lilian Dolores Silva fought to a Majority Draw

(AUG 20) Last night at the Estadio F.A.B., in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Maria Cecilia Roman, 126½, of San Juan, had a four-round majority draw with Lilian Dolores Silva, 125¾, of Santa Fe. Amanda Serrano won by Decision over Heather Hardy

(AUG 6) Last night at the American Airlines Center, in Dallas, Texas, Amanda "The Real Deal" Serrano, 125¾, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Heather "The Heart" Hardy, 124½.  Serrano was defending her IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA, and WBO Featherweight title belts.  Final judges scores were 100-90, 100-90, and 99-91.  In a second female bout, Shadasia Green, 166¾, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Olivia Curry, 167.

Amazing Road That Melinda Cooper has Taken in and out of the Ring!

(AUG 4) It has been quite an amazing road for retired world champion and Hall of Famer Melinda "La Maravilla" Cooper, of Las Vegas, Nevada.  I first began covering Melinda Cooper when she was just a mere kid, as an amateur boxer.  One day as I was checking out the emails coming into WBAN, we received a photo of Cooper from Las Vegas Photographer Mary Ann Owen.  Owen went on to introduce me to this young amateur and kept WBAN updated for many years as Cooper progressed through the sport.  Full Story

(AUG 1) On Saturday night at the Riders Field, Frisco, Texas, Shurretta Metcalf, 118, of Dallas, Texas, won an eight-round majority decisoin over Melissa Oddessa Parker, 116 3/4.
