(DEC 21)   AIBA celebrated its 70th anniversary on Tuesday evening with a Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony in the Swiss city of Montreux sponsored by TaiShan. This year’s awards saw the launch of the AIBA Legends programme, honouring the personalities and talents that have blessed the sport over AIBA’s seven decades as world boxing’s governing body. Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko, India’s MC Mary Kom, Cuba’s Felix Savon and France’s Brahim Asloum were recognised for their achievements, and the great Muhammed Ali’s life and legacy were affectionately remembered with the first AIBA Greats award.  Full Story

Japan:  Seven Female Bouts on Card with three bouts fighting for Titles!

(DEC 15)  WBAN has received fight results from a December 13th Card that took place at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, where there were seven female bouts on the card, with three of them being fought for titles.  Results:  WBO Female Atomweight title 102lb -Nao Ikeyama, 101, of Kyoto, Japan, won a [0:36 seconds) six-round TKO over Ayaka MIyao, 101¼, of Chikuma, Nagano, Japan. This was the fifth title defense for Ikeyama.   Full Story

(DEC 13)  Ireland’s Olympic champion from London 2012 Katie Taylor took another small step in her quest for a World Professional title in 2017, by defeating gallant Brazilian Viviane Obenauf on Saturday at Manchester Arena.  She gained a unanimous (60:53) points decision over the Swiss-based woman from Rio who suffered a bad cut over the eye in the process. The bout had been scheduled for 8.30pm but it was 10.30pm before they entered the ring as promoter Hearn wanted to ensure that Taylor’s bout like that of World IBF Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua would also be on Showtime’s PPV in United States. (DEC 11) The 2016 USA Boxing Elite and Youth National Championships and Junior Open came to a close on Saturday night with 23 champions crowned after an exciting week of competition. What began as 677 boxers looking for a shot at national titles ended with a rambunctious crowd of spectators cheering on the final two rings’ bouts at the KCI Expo Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Zauri Antia appointed Irish Head Coach on 5 years contract

(DEC 2)  Great news for Irish boxing fans Friday with confirmation that interim Head Coach Zauri Antia has been appointed to the role on a full time basis until 2021 despite considerable offers from the National Boxing Associations of Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia and Canada and MGM Gym in Marbella.
