(FEB 28) On Tuesday, at the Foro Polanco in Mexico city,  there was a special program on Televisa, called "Fábrica de Campeones" that featured men and women boxers who were chosen to be included in this platform of top boxers.  The boxers were being honored for their hard work and dedication to the sport, and the impact they will make in the history of the sport.

(FEB 28) Last night at the Kawasaki Todoroki Arena, in Kanagawa, Japan, Kimika Miyoshi won over OPBF bantamweight champion Riyo Togo by a eight-round split decision. Final judges scores were 77-75, 77-76, and 75-77.  Photos of fight by Samart

(FEB 27) On February 23, 2013, at the Club Olimpo, Bahia Blanca, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Alejandra "Locomotora" Oliveras, of Santa Fe, Argentina,  fought Dayana "Tigresa" Cordero, of Barranquilla, Colombia.  The two fought 10 rounds, for the WBO and WBA title. (FEB 26) WBAN just received some early results from Tokyo, Japan.  Tonight (Timeline in Japan), at Korakuen Hall, in Tokyo, Japan, WBA Light minimumweight champion Ayaka Miyao won a 10-round unanimous decision over Masae Akitaya. The final judges scores were 96-93, 98-93, and 98-91.

(FEB 22) Seventeen-year-old Erickson Lubin (Kissimmee, Fla.) officially introduced himself to the international boxing scene on Thursday night as the Florida teenager upset 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Yasniel Toledo Lopez of Cuba. Lubin headlined an outstanding day for the United States men as all five of them advanced to the finals of the 2013 Independence Cup with semifinal victories in Santiago, Dominican Republic.  Full Story

 The United States enjoyed an impressive showing on the second day of tournament action at the 2013 Independence Cup in Santiago, Dominican Republic on Tuesday. Light welterweight Erickson Lubin (Kissimmee, Fla.) and lightweight Queen Underwood (Seattle, Wash.) each claimed victories in the afternoon session with lightweight Kenneth Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill.) and middleweight Raquel Miller (San Francisco, Calif.) earned wins in evening action.....Full Story

Kuehne Is Back, Defends WBF World Title

(FEB 20) After almost fourteen months out of the ring due to injury, World Boxing Federation Women’s World Super Featherweight Champion Ramona Kuehne is back! On March 2 at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Germany she will defend her title against Halana Dos Santos from Brazil. This will be the fourth defense for Kuehne, 19-1 (6), who won the WBF crown in 2010. Gaines gives WBAN a Bird's Eye View of the frustration of negotiating fights

(FEB 20) Just recently,  I met up with female boxing veteran Sharon Gaines, who fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is just one of many boxers in this sport that "just" wants to fight---and with that said, to also be treated fairly in the sport. Gaines is one of many female boxers who experience the frustration of getting fights, negotiating fights, and seeing fights fall through. She is among many others female boxers who experience even greater frustration when a fight has actually been negotiated, agreed upon, waiting for the contract---just to see the contract never arrive.  Full Story

Northern Quest Resort & Casino to Host the 2013-2016 USA Boxing National Championships

(FEB 19) Northern Quest Resort & Casino has signed a four-year deal to host the USA Boxing National Championships, the premier Olympic-style boxing event in the United States. The 2013 edition will take place March 30-April 6 with preliminary action at the Hub Sports Center, supported by the Spokane Sports Commission, and the semifinal and final round bouts taking place at Northern Quest. The first-class facility hosted the historic U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Women’s Boxing in February of 2012. ... Full Story

USA Boxing’s Independence Cup Squad Wraps Training Camp at the Olympic Training Center

(FEB 16) Team USA will complete training camp today for the 2013 Independence Cup in Santiago, Dominican Republic. The eight-athlete squad arrived in Colorado Springs on January 28 and spent the two and half week camp honing their skills with USA Boxing International Teaching Coach Pedro Roque and the Olympic Training center staff.  While 2012 U.S. Olympian Queen Underwood (Seattle, Wash.), Olympic training partner Shawn Simpson (Chicago, Ill.) and 2012 Women’s World Championships silver medalist Raquel Miller (San Francisco, Calif.) are all returned to familiar...Full Story

Amanda Serrano: Off to the Dominican Republic!

(FEB 12)  Early this morning, New York's Amanda "The Real Deal" Serrano left for the Dominican Republic, in anticipation of fighting on Saturday (Feb 16) at the Gran Arena del Cibao, in the Dominican Republic. Amanda will be fighting for the WIBA and UBF featherweight titles against Wanda Pena Ozuna in a 10 rounder.

(FEB 10) The Trinidad & Tobago Amateur Boxing Association (TTABA) recently hosted their National Championships from January 30 to February 3rd. There were only three women’s bout but in an effort to give the local girls more experience, the TTABA invited neighboring islands to compete on the last day of the championships as an added attraction on the card.  Full Story

Argentina Boxing Action:  Bermudez Wins by a decision over Alcantra

(FEB 9) Last night at the  Club El Ciclon, in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, Daniela  "La Bonita" Bermudez, 113, won a 10-round unanimous decision over Romina Alcantra.  The two were fighting for the interim WBA super flyweight title.  Final judges scores were 99-89, 100-88, and 99-89.

(FEB 3) WBAN received a quick update on world champion Amanda "The Real Deal" Serrano who caught WBAN up to speed on what she is up to!  Serrano told WBAN, "I'm on my way home from the Dominican Republic,  where I was promoting my next fight against Wanda Peña Ozuna that will take place on February 16th.  I have a new promoter,  Michael Duzant, who is awesome by the way. He will be handling mine and my sister's [Cindy Serrano] boxing career.  We are scheduled to fight six fights this year between me and Cindy. Also we just picked up a few good sponsors,..Full Story

Nelson vs. Perozzi Ends in a Second Draw!

(FEB 3) Last night at the Cedarbridge Academy Gymnasium, in Pembroke, Bermuda, in a rematch for the two,  Teresa Perozzi, 158.5,  and Tori Nelson, 158.5 had yet "split" draw after fighting 10-rounds of action in front of over 2,000 boxing fans.  The two were again fighting for the WBC World Middleweight Title---the belt remains vacant. The Judges' Scores: Jack Woodburn (Canada) 97-44 Nelson; William Boodhoo (Canada) 96-95 Perozzi; and Julie Lederman (USA) 95-95 Draw.  In the first two rounds, the fight was uneventful, but the fight exploded in Round three when Nelson floored Perozzi with a vicious right to the chin.  Perozzi beat the count and immediately....Full Story

Susan Reno wins her Pro Debut in New York!

(FEB 1) Last night at the Staten Island Hilton, in Staten Island, New York, Susan Reno, 112, of New York, successfully won her pro debut against Vanessa Greco, 114.  The two fought in a four-rounder on the undercard. Reno won by a four-round split decision with the judges scoring at: 37-39, 39-37, and 40-36.

(FEB 1) The Canada Elite Women's National Team is headed to Toulouse, France for a training Camp and Dual Match. This is the team's first international competition in 2013. The training camp will happen from Feb. 1-7.  Dual Match vs. France: Feb. 8.9.
