(MAR 22) Life imitates art even in the
world of female prizefighting. With the recent
announcement that Lucia Rijker will be fighting
Christy Martin for a $1 million prize to the winner, it
opens the door for female professional boxers such as Elena
“Baby Doll” Reid (16-1-5, 5 KOs) who fights on an all-women
fight card Saturday in Laughlin, Nevada.
Because of the phenomenal success of Academy Award winner
Million Dollar Baby - a film that has grossed more than $75
million to date - boxer promoters are stepping up to take
advantage of female boxers.

Nickel to fight Lindsay in rematch

(MAR 18) On Saturday, April 30, 2005,
at the Isle of Capri Casino, in Lula, Mississippi, in the main
event, Midsouth Lt. Middleweight Champion Cristy Nickel,
7-1 (4 KO's), will be fighting Cassandra Lindsay, 1-2-0,
a six-rounder that will be a rematch. This is the only female
bout on the card. Prize Fight Promotions is hosting the event.
Nickel fought and beat Cassandra on October 23, 2004. Nickel
told WBAN, “She asked for a re-match. She is tough but my
experience and speed will earn me the win.”

present a professional boxing card at Ranchman’s Bar in Calgary
Alberta, Canada. On that night, Jelena Mrdjenovich
(Canada) 9-1 (5 KO’s) will face Tracy Carlton (U.S.A.)
0-7-1 (0 KO’s) in a six Round Lightweight match. This will be
the second time these women have met. Mrdjenovich won their

Rijker has signed a contract with a promoter to fight Laila Ali.
Problem is that Team Ali won’t bite. “That’s insulting,”

Canada, and was hosted by the Brantford Youth Boxing Club. The
event was first rate, and Jason Robinson and Boxing Ontario did

opportunity to interview four of the amateur female boxers,
Katie Dunn, Leah Evans, Jill Perry, and
